What is a hydraulic solenoid valve and how does it work?
A hydraulic solenoid valve is an electrically operated directional valve: when the coil (solenoid) is energized, the internal spool moves and redirects the flow of oil, changing the outlet paths to cylinders, hydraulic motors, or secondary circuits.
Depending on their configuration, they can be 2-way (2/2), 4/2 or 4/3 , offering different combinations of flow, cut-off and center position (open, closed or tank).
Common types and configurations
4/2 and 4/3 (directional valves)
The 4/2 controls two positions (extension/retraction) with two main channels; the 4/3 adds a third central position (lock, tank entry or rest).
These configurations are the most commonly used in cylinder and equipment maneuvers that require precise path control.
2/2 (gate valves)
The 2/2 valves are suitable for simple opening/closing functions and are used in auxiliary circuits or as safety and shut-off valves.
