What is a ball valve?
A ball valve, also known as a sphere valve or floating ball valve, is a device used to control the flow of liquids or gases through a pipe or conduit. By turning the lever 90°, the hole in the ball aligns with the pipe, allowing fluid to flow. These valves are very popular due to their simplicity and effectiveness in regulating flow.
What are the main advantages of using ball valves?
Ball valves are extremely durable and reliable. Their main advantages are fast operation, excellent sealing capacity, low maintenance costs, and minimal pressure loss.
What materials are they made of?
To adapt to the specific needs of each application, we offer a wide range of materials for our ball valves.
For general uses with water, air, and other non-corrosive fluids, brass is an economical and reliable choice. When greater corrosion resistance is required, especially in more aggressive environments or in sectors such as food, chemical, and pharmaceutical, stainless steel is the most appropriate material. Finally, for low-pressure applications handling water and various chemicals, PVC provides a lightweight and durable alternative.
What applications do ball valves have?
Due to their versatility, ball valves are used in almost all industrial sectors:
- Water treatment.
- Petrochemical industry.
- Agriculture (irrigation systems).
- Heating and air conditioning systems.
- Manufacturing and process control.
- Food and beverage industry.
What is the difference between a 2-way, 3-way, and 4-way ball valve?
- 2-way. This is the most common configuration. It controls flow in one direction, either open or closed (ON/OFF).
- 3-way. Allows you to divert flow between two directions, or mix fluids from two different inlets.
- 4-way. Used to reverse the flow in a circuit, allowing a change of direction in a single movement.
What fluids are ball valves compatible with?
They are compatible with a wide variety of fluids, including potable water, compressed air, gas, oil, steam, and a wide range of chemicals. Compatibility depends on the material used to manufacture the valve and its seals.
Do ball valves need regular maintenance?
Ball valves are known for their low maintenance. However, it's recommended to periodically inspect them for leaks and ensure smooth lever operation.
