Hydraulic coolers or hydraulic exchangers

An air-to-oil hydraulic heat exchanger is a type of heat exchanger used to cool oil (such as hydraulic oil, engine oil, or transmission oil) using air as the cooling medium. It is very common in industrial machinery, hydraulic systems, compressors, and vehicles.

How does a hydraulic refrigerator work?

The hot oil flows through a set of tubes or channels inside the heat exchanger. A fan forces ambient air over the fins surrounding these tubes. The air cools the oil by absorbing its heat, which dissipates into the atmosphere.

Advantages of hydraulic coolers:

  • No water required: Ideal for locations where there is no access to cooling water.
  • Easy maintenance: Lower risk of corrosion compared to water-oil systems

Portability:

Very useful in mobile machinery such as excavators, tractors, etc.
