Trapezoidal belt profiles: measurements and differences

The belt profile must match the pulley groove. This table summarizes the dimensions of each profile; click on its data sheet for the complete length table.

Profile Nominal section W x T (mm) Ref. width Wd (mm) Linear mass (g/m) Minimum winding diameter (mm) Le - Ld (mm)
Z-belt 10 x 6 8.50 64 63 15
V-belt A 13 x 8 11 108 71 16
V-belt B 17 x 11 14 188 112 22
C-belt 22 x 14 19 310 170 34
D-belt 32 x 19 27 590 300 51
SPZ V-belt 9.7 x 8 8.50 68 71 13
SPA V-belt 12.7 x 10 11 120 90 18
SPB V-belt 16.3 x 13 14 194 140 22
SPC V-belt 22 x 18 19 375 200 30

Le = outside length; Ld = primitive reference length.

How to choose a V-belt

  1. Profile. Measure the width and height of your belt, or read the code printed on its back (for example, A 50). The profile must match the pulley groove.
  2. Length. Find your measurement in the table on the data sheet of the chosen profile.
  3. Number of belts. If the pulley has several grooves, use belts of the same profile and length.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between classic and narrow profiles?

The classic sizes are Z, A, B, C, and D; the narrow sizes are SPZ, SPA, SPB, and SPC. They have different cross-sections (for example, the A measures 13 x 8 mm and the SPA 12.7 x 10 mm), so they are not interchangeable. The narrow sizes are designed to transmit more power within a similar size.

What does the reference number mean?

In standard profiles (Z, A, B, C, D), the number corresponds approximately to the inside length in inches. For example, an A 50 has an inside length of 1,270 mm and a pitch length of 1,306 mm. In narrow profiles (SPZ, SPA, SPB, SPC), the number corresponds to the pitch length in millimeters: an SPA 1250 has a pitch length of 1,250 mm.

What is the difference between internal length and primitive length?

The original length (Ld) is the reference length of the belt, measured around the measuring circumference. The inner length (Li) is the length of the inner side of the belt.

What do I do if I can't find my size?
