What are mechanically driven pneumatic distributors?

Mechanically actuated pneumatic distributors are a valve intended to control the flow and direction of compressed air in a pneumatic system, whose actuation is carried out by an external mechanical element (roller, cam, feeler, push button, etc.), without electrical intervention.

What is its main function?

Switching airflow between different paths, starting, stopping or reversing movements in pneumatic actuators and acting as a position detection element in automation systems.

What types of mechanical drives exist?

The most common ones are:

  • Direct push button
  • Roller with lever (for cam or contact actuation)
  • probe or stem
  • Manual lever

Each type is selected according to the form of interaction with the mechanical system.

In what applications is mechanical drive used?

  • Automated systems without electrical control
  • Cylinder limit detection
  • Industrial machines with mechanical contact drive
  • Environments where robustness and simplicity are required

What installation considerations are important?

  • Proper location to ensure correct mechanical contact
  • Avoid excessive lateral stress on the actuator
  • Check alignment with cams or moving parts
  • Periodic maintenance to prevent wear and tear

What limitations does a mechanical drive have?

  • Less flexibility compared to electro-pneumatic systems
  • Dependence on physical contact for its activation
  • Mechanical wear under intensive use
